Patelette de sabretache modèle troupe de... - Lot 125 - Audap & Associés
Patelette de sabretache modèle troupe de l'artillerie montée de la Garde impériale (Ier Empire). Made of leather, hemmed at the edge. Covered in blue cloth, edged with scarlet "bâtons" braid and piping. Richly embroidered with an imperial eagle under a crown, on crossed barrels within a wreath of laurel oak leaves in green, yellow and red cotton threads. Remnants of two ties and two lines (not topstitched). (Worn.) Height 33 cm. Width: 32 cm. History and related works : Imperial Guard troop sabretaches are particularly rare. For the mounted artillery of the Guard, a few examples are known, two of which can be dated to the early Empire (private collection and Musée de l'Armée, former Christian Blondieau collection). The copy in the Musée de l'Empéri, dated from the end of the Empire, is similar in design to our copy, with the notable exception that the eagle was replaced by a brass motif on the Musée de l'Empéri after the 1st Restoration. The design of our eagle is simpler than that of the early Empire models. Bibliography: V. BOURGEOT, "Les trésors de l'Empéri", La Revue Napoléon, p. 139. EXPERT: Jean-Claude DEY & Arnaud de GOUVION SAINT-CYR
