Mazarin desk in marquetry, the front opening... - Lot 148 - Audap & Associés
Mazarin desk in marquetry, the front opening to seven drawers and a window, the top decorated with foliage scrolls in reserves on a burr wood background resting on curved uprights ending with sheathed legs joined four by four by two struts topped with pinnacles; (old restorations, including the decoration of the strut bars probably in marquetry at the origin) Attributed to Thomas Hache (1664-1747). Regency period. Height : 81 cm 81 cm ; Width : 113 cm ; Depth : 72 cm Bibliographical reference: P. and F. Rouge, Le Génie des Hache, Dijon, 2005. A very similar desk by Thomas Hache is illustrated in the reference book on the cabinetmaker dynasty. It has an almost identical design and template, the marquetry of the side drawers is very comparable and the top shows a similar composition with marquetry panels in the same spirit (Rouge, op. cit. p. 166-167). Another desk, also by Thomas Hache, has a virtually identical marquetry on the drawers (Rouge, op. cit., pp. 168-169). A third desk, with gilded wood uprights, is decorated with a tray whose central reserve is the same, except for a few details in the lower part, as that of the desk presented here (Rouge, op. cit., p. 165).
