Renaud and Armide, Europe, circa 1780. - Lot 106
Renaud and Armide, Europe, circa 1780. Folded fan, the paper sheet mounted in English style and painted with gouache. Garlands of flowers, punctuated by musical trophies, frame medallions holding vases surmounted by loves. In the center, a large cartel depicts loves surrounding the magician Armide, seduced by the knight Renaud in armor. Her shield, helmet and sword serve as toys for the lovers. On the right, in the background, Renaud's fellow crusaders worry about his disappearance. The reverse is painted with doves in a cartel. Beautiful white mother-of-pearl mounting, richly beaded, carved, engraved, burgundy and gilded, decorated with ten medallions of gallant scenes, loves, vases and two still lifes, one with a globe. (Very good condition.) Height 29.6 cm; leaf height: 14.7 cm. In a beige silk-covered box bearing the address of the Parisian fan-maker Duvelleroy under the lid. Expert : Georgina Letourmy-Bordier
