Conversation galante, Europe, circa 1770-1780. - Lot 105
Conversation galante, Europe, circa 1770-1780. Folded fan, the skin sheet painted with gouache of an elegant couple in conversation in a garden. A woman holds a child on a leash on the right, in front of the statue of Love, while two shepherds converse on the left. On the reverse, a young woman in a sketched landscape. On the reverse, top right, a circular stamp featuring a double-headed heraldic eagle and the date 1776. This mark can be compared to the St. Petersburg customs stamp that appears on many fans in the Ostankino Palace collection in Moscow. Blond tortoiseshell frame, finely pierced, engraved and gilded with Chinese-style figures. (Wear and restoration). Height 27.5 cm; leaf height: 12.6 cm. In a leather-covered box. Bibliography: - See A. TCHERVIAKOV, "Éventails du XVIIIe au début du XXe siècle, Collection du Palais d'Ostankino à Moscou", Parkstone Editions, 1998, p. 195. Expert : Georgina Letourmy-Bordier
