Antoniucci VOLTI (1915-1989) Femme nue s'essuyant le pied Br - Lot 101
Antoniucci VOLTI (1915-1989) Femme nue s'essuyant le pied Bronze with brown and green patinas. Signed 'VOLTI' and bearing no. 6/6. Height: 16 cm. 16 cm Provenance: - Collection Jacques Ratier, director of Galerie Chardin, by descent. This small group of works by sculptor Antoniucci Volti (1915-1989) - two sculptures in bronze and one in patinated plaster, as well as a coffee table with ceramic top - has been carefully preserved by the family of Galerie Chardin founder Jacques Ratier, in memory of the artist's close relationship with the gallery owner. Jacques Ratier recounts how, at the end of the war, he discovered a small Volti terracotta in the Claude gallery on rue de Seine. Through the gallery's director, they met and became fast friends. In 1952, Jacques Rattier became Volti's regular gallery owner. He organized his first exhibition in 1953: "Volti had entered the gallery towards the end of 1952. Needless to say, I was overjoyed to have him here. I had asked him to do an exhibition, however small, to introduce him to our public and also to the critics and the press. This was all the more important for us as, at the time, sculpture was, it could be said, the poor relation. Moreover, there weren't many galleries exhibiting sculpture (...) Personally, from that first exhibition, I was certain that we were looking at a very great sculptor. (Quarante ans rue de Seine, Galerie Chardin, Jacques and Michel Ratier, smi-paris, 1983, p.44 and 45). The gallery was a loyal supporter of the artist, organizing no fewer than ten other exhibitions dedicated to him between 1953 and 1980. Expert: Cabinet LACROIX-JEANNEST
