Attributed to Sébastien VRANCX (1573-1647). - Lot 21
Attributed to Sébastien VRANCX (1573-1647). Winter landscape with skaters on a frozen canal. Oak panel, one board, not parqueted. (Minor restorations and accident.) Height 25 cm; Width: 35 cm. Provenance: Galerie Heim-Gairac, Paris, 1953. Bibliography: Catalogue of the exhibition Paysage flamands de Met de Blès à Jan Brueghel, Galerie Heim-Gairac, April-May 1953, no. 43. Our composition is known from other, almost similar versions, notably the one that appeared in the Cologne sale, November 15, 2014 (Lempertz), lot 1031 (30 x 42 cm). This painting, which probably belonged to a series depicting the seasons, was probably produced in the first decade of the 17th century, when Vrancx was closest to the art of Pieter Brueghel the Elder in both subject and style. He then painted mainly military battle scenes, using a more intense color palette. Expert : Cabinet TURQUIN - Stéphane PINTA
