In this work, Raymond Martin, a student of Jules Jouant at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art and a loyal disciple of Robert Wlérick, pays tribute to the widely-exploited theme of bathers in a classical pose. The originality of this model lies in its featureless face and the way the woman holds the cloth covering her lower body. The sculptor thus emphasizes the subject's inner strength: a woman of her time, revealing herself to the viewer.
