MEDICINE. HUCHER Jean. Joannis Hucheri Bellovaci Medicorum monspeliensium cancellarii, de febrium differentiis, causis, signisque & curatione. Libri quatuor. Lyon, Antoine de Harsy, 1601; in-8, (167 x 106 mm), (63)-429-(22) pp, flap vellum, ribbed spine, double fillet stamped on boards, handwritten title on spine, blue edges. Contemporary binding (first blank page missing). A native of Picardy, Jean Hucher, the youngest member of his family, did not take up a career in arms; he left to study medicine in Montpellier, the most renowned medical school, where he defended his doctoral thesis in 1567. He practiced medicine in Montpellier, developed pediatrics and became so well known that he was chosen to become Chancellor of the University. A fine copy, with a mss bookplate on the title and an ex-dono dated 1608 from Sébastien Schröder, a famous physician in Strasbourg, then part of the Holy Roman Empire.
