Height: 53.5 cm; Width: 79 cm Provenance : - Private collection, Limoges Born in Limousin but raised in Algeria, Jean-Louis PAGUENAUD (1876-1952) trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Limoges and at the Académie Julian, where he is said to have been a pupil of Bouguereau. Throughout his life, he retained a passion for travel and sunny lands: the Basque Country, Spain, Asia, the West Indies, Africa, North Africa, Polynesia, etc. In 1922, he was appointed official painter to the French Navy. Paul Valéry dubbed him "the admiral of painters, the painter of admirals". The Musée de la Marine conserves several works by this brilliant colorist.
