Estienne, 1555; small oblong in-4 (100 x 160 mm) of [20] ff., 448 pp, mid-seventeenth century brown calf binding, on the boards double framed with two cold fillets with gilt fleuron at the corners, smooth spine (unstuck) decorated with the same fleuron repeated. First edition, dedicated to the cardinal of Châtillon. It is illustrated with 200 woodcut fish figures on 184 pages. COPY OFFERING ALL THE FIGURES WATERCOLORED AT THE TIME. It does contain the figure of a so-called fish representing a monk, removed in the reprints. There is a large format edition. Signature T. Norcliffe and librarian stamp. H.E. Sauvage.
