Saif sword mounted in gold Middle East, probably Saudi Arabia, late 19th-early 20th century Length: 89 cm The curved, single-edged blade with three gutters features two suns and a moon on each side. The handle is mounted in gold and forms a stock ending in an engraved silver double quillon. A glass paste bead finishes the stock above the chain forming the hilt. The edge of the handle is decorated with gold filigree. The leather-covered wooden scabbard is gold-mounted with engraved decoration and set with glass paste beads. The attachment rings and lower parts of the scabbard are silver, engraved with geometric and plant motifs. A cartouche gives the name of the craftsman "... عمل محمد" sic. (Mohammed's work).
