Throughout his life, he kept a passion for travel and the countries of the sun: Basque Country, Spain, Asia, West Indies, Africa, North Africa, Polynesia etc. In 1922, he was appointed official painter of the Navy. Paul Valéry nicknamed him "the admiral of painters, the painter of admirals". The Musée de la Marine holds several works by this brilliant colorist. "Paguenaud keeps in his heart an emotional attachment to the Basque Country. See (...) and say if the artist did not feel the enveloping charm of the marvelous country of Ramuntcho and if he did not feel the secret of the Ocean" (Jacques de Saint-Pastou, Paris Journal, 1914)
