Jean-Louis PAGUENAUD (1876-1952) The halt in the desert Oil on canvas, signed lower left Height : 97 cm 97 cm ; Width : 130 cm Provenance: - Preserved in the artist's descendants to this day Bibliography : Vincent PECAUD, Jean-Louis Paguenaud, Catalogue raisonné et illustré, Tome I, p. 100 n° 58 Originally from the Limousin region but first raised in Algeria, Jean-Louis PAGUENAUD (1876-1952) was trained at the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges and at the Académie Julian where he is said to have been a student of Bouguereau. All his life, he kept a passion for travel and the countries of the sun: Basque Country, Spain, Asia, West Indies, Africa, North Africa, Polynesia etc. In 1922, he was appointed official painter of the Navy. Paul Valéry nicknamed him "the admiral of painters, the painter of admirals". The Musée de la Marine holds several works by this brilliant colorist.
