Jean-Louis PAGUENAUD (1876-1952) Woman and child in Morocco Before 1914 Oil on canvas, signed "Jean Paguenaud" lower right Height : 81 cm 81 cm ; Width : 100,5 cm Provenance: - Preserved in the artist's descendants to this day Born in Limousin but first raised in Algeria, Jean-Louis PAGUENAUD (1876-1952) was trained at the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges and at the Académie Julian where he was a student of Bouguereau. All his life, he kept a passion for travel and the countries of the sun: Basque Country, Spain, Asia, West Indies, Africa, North Africa, Polynesia etc. In 1922, he was appointed official painter of the Navy. Paul Valéry nicknamed him "the admiral of painters, the painter of admirals". The Musée de la Marine holds several works by this brilliant colorist.
