Theodor PALLADY (1871-1956) - Gheorghe RAUT (20th century) Meeting of various archives : - Autograph letter, in an unstamped envelope, addressed to Mr. Henry Matisse, Hotel St Pierre - Rochefort by S and O, a letter signed R (probably Gheorge Raut): "Wednesday. Yes, my poor old .... "; small album of annotated photographs; photo, portrait of woman, annotated on the back Olga Mourouzi (Mourousi); postcard, photo of Greta Garbo. Provenance: - Serafina and Gheorghe Răuţ (Georges Raut) Collection; - Collection of a family of Romanian origin in Paris; - By succession to the present owner. An artist of Romanian origin, Theodor Pallady (1871-1956) settled in France at the end of the 19th century and rubbed shoulders with Albert Marquet, Georges Rouault, Constantin Brancusi and Henri Matisse. Matisse became his teacher for a few years and had a definite influence on his work on the female nude and on color. Back in Romania at the beginning of the 20th century, he continued to exhibit in France until the Second World War.
