Attributed to Louis Delanois, carpenter received master in 1 - Lot 245
Attributed to Louis Delanois, carpenter received master in 1761. Pair of important molded, carved and gilded beechwood armchairs, with flat back and circular seat, the uprights in console and the supports of armrests moved, resting on tapered legs with spiral flutes; (accidents, restorations and misses). Louis XV period, circa 1770. Height : 98 cm 98 cm ; Width : 67 cm The years 1755-1775 are years of stylistic transition in the field of decorative arts; the innovation in the field of the seat takes at this time two directions in order to follow the taste for a return to the ancient classicism. The first is a simple juxtaposition of a neoclassical decoration on an ancient form. The second, perhaps more interesting, is an architectural combination of old and new features. Our armchairs combine a Louis XVI structure with moving armrests that extend well beyond the seat. This series of chairs was delivered around 1770 to the Countess Du Barry by the carpenter Louis Delanois (1731-1792), who constitutes a very plausible attribution for our pair of armchairs.
