Display case in stained wood and lacquer with inlays and reliefs of hard stones, engraved metal, mother-of-pearl and gilded bronze, opening with three leaves and a glass door, the trays with scroll edges, decorated in the Far Eastern style with stylized foliage and flowers surrounded by meanders and openwork scrolls, basket of flowers, saddle, dragons and utensils; (accidents, especially on the top; missing). Attributed to Gabriel Viardot. Late 19th century, circa 1880-1890. Height : 173 cm 173 cm ; Width : 126 cm ; Depth : 45 cm A cabinet with a similar decoration, probably exhibited at the World's Fair in Antwerp in 1885, was recently sold in Paris, study Delon-Hoebanx, February 17, 2022, lot 4. More richly decorated, it bore the double signature of Gabriel Viardot and the Japanese lacquerer Masatoshi Hamada. Its decoration of dragon and vase of flowers on saddles is very similar to the repertoire of our piece of furniture. Expert : Pierre-François DAYOT
