First edition published by the Société des Bibliophiles françois. The count of Hoym was one of the most ardent bibliophiles of the early 18th century. But it was rumoured that, in order to devote more resources to his passion, he had sold the secret of the manufacture of Saxon porcelain. Recalled by his government, he killed himself. His books, almost all of them bound with his arms, were sold in Paris in 1738.
Letter from Baron Pichon at the beginning of the first volume to Charles Hittier. Portrait of the Count of Hoym, illustrations in the text and plates of bindings and coats of arms.
