JOACHINO [DA FIORE] Abbate. Prophetia dello Abbate Joachino circa li Pontifici & R.E. Venice, 1527; in-4 (206 x 155 mm) of [20] ff. in brown half morocco binding, transparent plexiglas covers, slipcase (D.H. Mercher). These prophecies are erroneously attributed to Joachino, a 12th-century priest. The colophon states that the edition, published by fra Leandro Alberti, is based on the one of Bologna, 15 July 1515, which was dedicated to John de Medici, Pope Leo X. Large vignette with black background on the title page and 32 FULL-PAGE FIGURES ENGRAVED ON WOOD: master reading at a rostrum surrounded by four figures, 22 portraits of popes charged with strange attributes and in static or theatrical attitudes, monsters and various esoteric figures. The prophecies occupy the lower part of the 30 illustrated pages. Numerous annotations of the time in orange ink. The copy is protected and enhanced by a transparent binding by Daniel-Henri Mercher.
