History:
This drawing is a touching souvenir of the War of 1870. The painter, then a lieutenant of the Engineers, was attached to General Caillé, commander of the Belleville sector, who is seen observing the battle in our drawing with his aide-de-camp, a cavalry officer in pelisse.
They are surrounded by mobile national guards, nicknamed "moblos", dear to De Neuville.
The drawing is dedicated to his wife, the actress Mimi Maréchal.
