Although little is known of Roger de La Fresnaye's body of sculptures, they occupy a special place in the artist's work. Fascinated by ancient sculpture, particularly Egyptian and Assyrian statuary, he took up modeling in the summer of 1907. Between 1909 and 1911, his sculpture tended towards cubism. Created during this period, the figure of Eve can be compared with the oil on canvas Eve assise, also known as Femme à la pomme (1909-1910, H. 130 x W. 97 cm, unlocated). Although the sculpture may have been created as part of the painting process, both works were exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1910. Eve's sculpture is influenced by the work of Aristide Maillol, with its simple, rounded forms. Expert : Cabinet LACROIX-JEANNEST
