Jan Davidszoon de HEEM (Utrecht 1606-Antwerp 1683/84). - Lot 22
Jan Davidszoon de HEEM (Utrecht 1606-Antwerp 1683/84). Still life with lemon, crabs, Röhmer, grapes, walnuts and hazelnuts on an entablature. Oak panel, one board, unparqueted, slightly enlarged at bottom, signed upper right: J de Heem. (Minor old restorations.) Height 28.7 cm; Width: 37 cm. History: Private collection, Paris, 1954. Bibliography: J. Gammelbo. Dutch still life painting from the 16th to the 18th Centuries in Danish Collection, 1960, p. 70, under no. 80. Exhibition: Saint-Étienne, 1954, in the catalog under no. 26. Professor Fred Meijer dates this painting to around 1644, a year in which the artist painted mainly large floral compositions, but also perhaps a still life. Gammelbo compared it to the Copenhagen Museum's Still Life of 1652, in which we find similar elements: same römher (but slightly off-center), peeled lemon, crabs, bunch of grapes and leaves. We would like to thank Professor Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution of this painting, by email, on digital photography, on September 12, 2018. It is included in his June 2016 University of Amsterdam PhD thesis, Jan Davidz. de Heem (1606-1684), in the catalog raisonné under no. A084. Expert : Cabinet TURQUIN - Stéphane PINTA
