Provenance: Collection Jacques & Michèle GINEPRO
In 1008, as the plague ravaged Valenciennes and its suburbs, the inhabitants prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. She encircled the town with a scarlet cord and healed its faithful in exchange for the promise of an annual procession following the line of the cord.
Sketched in 1864, this model was later published by Valsuani. This print is numbered and justified from one to fifteen, and our proof bears the number "3".
