Among the many revivals of this famous composition, the first version of which may have belonged to Rubens (Southampton City Art Gallery, inv. 315), we would like to mention the following:
- Lempertz sale 1/2/1940, former Viecoeg collection (Christ without collar holding a bird) ;
- Sotheby's London sale 1/5/1978, (Christ with collar and cross);
- Sotheby's London sale 4/20/1988, no. 44 (Christ with collar, without cross);
- Sotheby's London sale 3/7/1991, no. 83 (Christ with collar and cross).
The Child's head in our version appears to have been reworked at a later date.
