DERÈME Tristan (Philippe Huc dit). Le violon des Muses. Manuscript partly autograph, partly typewritten, partly printed from magazine impressions and bearing numerous alterations. Paris, 1934; large volume in-4 in sheets of 376 leaves (numbered 1-49, 72-400, 451-462 ? sometimes recto-verso). Unique manuscript of these "fanciful" chronicles, which were to form a volume published by Grasset in 1935. - Chapter division: "Les propos de M. Polyphème Durand. Dedicated to André Bellesort, Virgil's friend. Pages 2-49. "Le Quatorze Juillet ou Petit art de rimer quand on manque de rimes". Pages 72-132. "Guirlande pour deux vers de Gérard de Nerval". Pages 133-199. "De Calendrier". Pages 200-250. "En rêvant à P.-J. Toulet ou le Temps de naguère et, déjà, de jadis". Pages 251-400. "La Puce et les oeufs" ("The Flea's Song"; "Patachou's Eggs"). Pages 452-461 "Table of contents". Page 462. The texts on pages 50-71 ("Fausse mort de M. Théodore Decalandre") and 401-451 ("Sous les troènes du Béarn") may be missing, unless they were not retained by the publisher. Enclosed: 3 autograph letters from Derème to Louis Brun, literary director of Editions Grasset, including one with two photographs of his portrait mounted on paper. Many pages bear Derème's corrections or additions, while many others are entirely in his own hand. Along with Francis Carco, Paul-Jean Toulet and others, Derème is the founder of the École fantaisiste. In 1938, he was awarded the Grand Prix de littérature by the Académie française for his body of work. - Enclosed: the author's typed and corrected "prière d'insérer" (although supposedly composed by the publisher).
