First edition, dedicated to Frederick II. - Voltaire tried in vain to oppose this printing, based on a manuscript that had escaped him. - Bound at the end, by the same author: DIATRIBE DU DOCTEUR AKAKIA, médecin du pape. Decree of the Inquisition... Rome, [Paris], 1753; 24 pages. - Presumed third edition, published the same year as the original. This violent pamphlet against Maupertuis angered Frederick II, who had it destroyed in a public square.
