BINDING. FORM OF PRAYERS FOR THE USE OF THE BOARDERS OF THE - Lot 202
BINDING. FORM OF PRAYERS FOR THE USE OF THE BOARDERS OF THE URSULINE NUNS. Limoges, Martial Ardant, 1834; in-12, contemporary binding in long-grained red morocco, on the boards important neo-gothic gilt and mosaic decoration (different on each board), in the center of the upper board perpendicular inscription Élisabeth Poujade, four-ribbed spine with gilt and mosaic decoration, interior lace and gilt edges (Poujade. Lib. relieur. Millau).
BINDING DECORATED WITH AN IMPORTANT NEO-GOTHIC GILT AND MOSAIC DECORATION. The binder has pleasantly gilded on the back, in place of the title : INSTRUCTION DU SEXE, leaving a doubt : for the knowledge of sex or for the people of sex. He has inscribed on the upper cover in gilt letters apparently the name of his wife (or daughter) ELISABETH POUJADE and has bound in at the head a portrait of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary engraved in color.
The name of Poujade bookbinder in Millau is not mentioned by any specialized directory. Small defect at two corners.
