[RICHER Louis]. L'Ovide Bouffon ou Les Métamorphoses burlesq - Lot 56
[RICHER Louis]. L'Ovide Bouffon ou Les Métamorphoses burlesques. Paris, Étienne Loyson, 1659; 5 parts with special titles in a large volume in-12, antique spotted calf, gilt arms on boards, spine partly stripped. Original edition with a nice satirical engraved frontispiece. The idea of this burlesque version was probably born from Scarron's Virgil travesti (1652). BOOKBINDING WITH THE ARMS OF LOUIS-URBAIN LE FÈVRE DE CAUMARTIN, MARQUIS DE SAINT-ANGE (1653-1720), intendant of Finances in 1690, State Counselor in 1675. He left "a library remarkable as much for the choice of works as for the beauty of the bindings" (Olivier, 651, iron n° 4).
