MARAIS Mathieu. Pièces en trio pour les flûtes, violons & dessus de viole. Paris, l'auteur ; Hurel ; Bonneuil ; Foucault, 1692 ; small oblong in-4 of 114 pages, contemporary fawn calf, gilt lace on the boards, gilt fillets and fleur-de-lys on the corners, spine with fleur-de-lys, inner lace and gilt edges.
First edition. Text, figure and musical notation entirely engraved on copper. Beautiful title-frontispiece by C. Simonneau and 4 pages of dedication to Miss Roland and of privilege. Mathieu Marais, a famous baroque viol player, published two other parts of these pieces in trio.
A copy of which the luxury of the binding and the fleurs de lys may suggest a royal entourage.
