(Small accidents.)
First edition. Collection of 49 plates (out of 52) of insects, fruits and small mammals engraved on copper by Jacob Hoefnagel, son of the author. The subjects are represented with meticulousness, realism and a certain mannerism which, given also the scale of the volumes not respected, brings a surreal note to the collection which is formed of four series of 12 plates. The first two are complete. Missing plates 2 and 12 of the third and plate 1 of the fourth. A few small tears mended formerly. - Bound in the suite :
COLLAERT Adrian. Piscium vivæ icones. [Antwerp ?, circa 1610-1620]. - Suite of 26 plates engraved on copper by Theodore Galle: fish, whale, turtle, crustaceans, mollusks and even a crocodile. The subjects posed on shores let see harbors and ships in the background. The engravings cut from the frames are reassembled.
