French school circa 1730, workshop of Nicolas de LARGILLIÈRE - Lot 73
French school circa 1730, workshop of Nicolas de LARGILLIÈRE (1656-1746) Bust-Length Portrait of a Young Girl Canvas (Some scattered damages.) Height 85 cm; Width: 68 cm Wood and gilded stucco frame, probably 18th century. Considered one of the masters of French portraiture at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, Largillière directed a workshop that included many great artists, including Jean-Baptiste Oudry and Joseph-André Cellony. Our model's face and attitude are typical of the work produced by Largillière and his pupils. For example, the swirling drapery of our portrait can be compared to that of the portrait of the Countess of Castelblanco in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. EXPERT: Cabinet Éric TURQUIN
