Aurore DUPIN known as George SAND (1804-1876) Ruins Watercolor... - Lot 42 - Audap & Associés
Aurore DUPIN known as George SAND (1804-1876) Ruins Watercolor and dendrite Height 10.5 cm; Width: 11 cm George Sand had been drawing since childhood, like other young women of her time, but with a passion that would stay with her for the rest of her life. Portraits, country scenes, souvenirs of her travels - drawing was her companion and a source of great joy. She could have been a renowned painter had she not become a writer. Late in life, she invented a watercolor process of her own, which she called "dendrite", compositions based on stains and other chance shapes, enhanced or not with watercolor. Her work remains little-known, however, and is mostly held in private collections. EXPERT: Élisabeth MARÉCHAUX
