Jean-Michel PICARD (1600-1682) Cut flowers in a terracotta vase and lemons on a draped entablature Canvas (the top formerly scalloped) (Old restorations.) Height : 108 cm 108 cm ; Width : 90 cm With its saturated colors, its bright light and its masterful composition, our painting is typical of the most beautiful of Jean-Michel Picard's most beautiful productions. The terracotta vase decorated with foliage is of a similar model similar model in a painting exhibited by Bruno Meissner in Maastricht in 1982; In another painting of a pair, exhibited at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge in 1993, ("Flower and still life paintings from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge" cat. by Peter Mitchell) we find exactly the same two yellow flowers as those as those in the center of our painting; one of these two paintings is signed.
