BINDING WITH THE ARMS OF JEAN-LOUIS DE RIQUET COMTE (DIT MARQUIS) DE CARAMAN (1731-1808), treasurer of the King's armies in 1768. Candide, having been condemned in France then the Italian translation by the Vatican, few amateurs dared to gild their arms on the binding of a work which smelled of sulphur. - Reproduction above.
